DreamWorks Animation Posts $19.6M Profit in 3Q 2009; No "Monsters vs. Aliens" Sequel

DreamWorks Animation SKG reported net income of $19.6 million on revenues of $135.4 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2009. The profit marks a 48% decline from the same period a year ago, but still beat analyst expectations. Much of the profit this quarter was driven by home video and pay TV revenue from Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Kung Fu Panda, and Monsters vs. Aliens.

The studio also announced that they would not be producing a sequel to Monsters vs. Aliens due to "tepid response in key overseas markets."
